About the Artists:

Maj Ragain, one of the premiere poetic writers of our fair city of Kent
and professor of
English and writing at Kent State University, will host the many
wondrous voices of children as well as adult poets from the community at
the 4th annual, Poetry in the Park.

Students from Skeels Mathews Community Center in Ravenna, Arts Alive!,
Maplewood Career Center and Walls Elementary Schools of Kent will be led
in poetic voice by their respective instructors: Laura Barrett, Scott
Parsons, Gabz Ciofani (who will also serve as emcee) and James DeMonte,
Wick Poetry Outreach Assistant.

All participating students are members of the Kent State University
"Giving Voice" program, an outreach program of the Wick Poetry program.
The Wick Poetry Center was founded in 1984 to promote opportunities for
emerging and established poets and poetry audiences--now in its 25th
year. "Giving Voice" is the the result of Teaching Poetry in the
Schools taught by Wick Center Program and Outreach Director, KSU writing
instructor and poet, David Hassler. David Hassler, with the assistance
of local business owner, Karen Barrett, has brought Poetry in the Park
to Home Savings Plaza for four years as part of the DICE program of
Standing Rock Cultural Arts.

Spend an afternoon in the park listening to creative voices young and
old. You will be
refreshed and renewed!
