Wrap Up of this years Event:

We had a smashing great time at The 10th Annual Vegan Iron Chef
competition last night at Canal Park Stadium in Downtown Akron! The
chefs arrived with rolling carts, dollies, caddies, schleppers, and
roadies full of pots, pans, and utensils, marching past the rows of hot
dogs and draft beer to the culinary arena of knives, flames, pinchers,
and fresh asparagus from Bluebird Farm in Brimfield.

The arena was a concrete battlefield on the concourse above left field,
an area known to the locals as "Fowl Play" as the Rubber Ducks took to
the field below against the Erie Monsters. It was a place of bats and
balls, mega sized loudspeakers, and jumbotrons of visual delight, on a
green field of white lines and a diamond of dirt with bases to run around.

The chefs were prepared to fire up the burners and slice the veggies
like no veggie has ever been sliced before! And they did! And it was
good. The smells permeated the air throughout the stadium, mingling with
the ghosts of the canal workers who laid out this waterway in Downtown
Akron way back in 1827.

As the pans sizzled and the pots boiled, the feverish assault on our
senses came fast and furious, with an elegance of sublime, aromatic
intensity so severe, that we were transported into reverie and
momentarily forgot that we could get smashed by a foul ball traveling at
90mph at any moment! Judge Maurice Drake almost caught one on the
noggin', but fortunately, the ball steered to the left, and Maurice was
able to avoid a collision and took home a souvenir rather than a
concussion from the event.

We congratulate all the chefs for the incredible work they did last night!

When all was said and the done, and the dishes had been tasted and
scored, two winners emerged.

Congratulations to:

Juried Choice: Xavier Smith, Executive Chef from The New Center in Rootstown.

People's Choice: James Crookston from Bringing Abundance Catering based in Canton

Thanks to all the incredible chefs, judges, and volunteers who helped
make the evening a success!

And thanks to Sara Varela and The Rubber Ducks for hosting us at such a
fine venue!

See you next year!
